Progress being made in EU-Japan talks on strategic partnership, free trade

In December, Petr Ježek chaired the European Parliament's Japan delegation for its third meeting of the mandate. The discussion focused on the ongoing free trade negotiations between the EU and Japan, with contributions from representatives of the European External Action Service and the European Commission's Trade Directorate General. It became clear that progress is being made in the negotiations, with both sides hoping for a successful completion of the Free Trade Agreement in the near future.

Prior to the Delegation Meeting, MEP Ježek had the honour of hosting lunch for the Japanese Ambassador to the EU, His Excellency Mr Keiichi Katakami, at the European Parliament in Brussels. Both officials reiterated their desire to work closely together in the coming five years, especially given the on-going negotiations on the strategic partnership and free trade agreements.
