The 35th annual Inter-Parliamentary Meeting (IPM) between the European Parliament and the Japanese Diet concluded in Strasbourg on Thursday.
In his concluding remarks, the head of the EP delegation for the relations with Japan, Petr Ježek thanked the lawmakers for their participation in what was a fruitful discussion with useful exchanges on issues such as the Free Trade Agreement, the Strategic Partnership Agreement, demographic challenges, security, economy, energy, environment and gender equality.

During the IPM, members of the Japanese delegation had the opportunity to share their views with a number of prominent figures from the European political scene, including the President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker, Commissioner Cecilia Malmström as well as Elmar Brok and Bernd Lange, chairs of the European Parliament Foreign Affairs and International Trade Committees, respectively.

“I was pleased with the constructive discussions and active participation during the meeting. It was particularly interesting to hear the perspectives of the Japanese members on the prospects for the Free Trade Agreement as well as their parallel negotiations on the Trans Pacific Partnership with the United States. We look forward to continuing discussions on these issues, among others, at the next IPM in Japan,” Petr Ježek said after the meeting concluded.
