Petr Ježek
Born in Prague in 1965. A graduate of Prague’s University of Economics, Petr Ježek joined his country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and served as a diplomat. For some ten years, he held relatively high posts related to the country’s ties with the EU, e.g. heading the Foreign Ministry’s European Integration Department and serving as Deputy State Secretary for European Affairs. He also worked as chief of staff of then Czech Prime Minister Vladimír Špidla. In 2014, Petr Ježek was elected Member of the European Parliament on the ballot of the ANO 2011 party.

On Wednesday 13th May, the Commission unveiled its new blueprint for dealing with the EU's migration crisis. One key pillar of the plan is the implementation of a mandatory distribution system on asylum claimants and refugees throughout the EU.
The distribution of asylum seekers in clear need of international protection among member states would use a formula taking into account the strength of the economy and unemployment rates, the size of the population and the number of refugees they have taken in so far.
Did the Commission launch a consultation process before advocating this plan in order to gather the views of national experts, independent think-tanks, international or European organisation and NGOs with field experience on this new quota system? If so, will the Commission make it publicly available ?
Will the Commission launch an impact assessment of this new quota system?
Will the Commission upcoming legislative proposal to provide for a mandatory and automatically-triggered relocation system be accompanied by an extensive consultation process and impact assessment?
I understand there is a wide-spread worry among experts about the feasibility and legal implications for refugees of this new mandatory distribution system. What are the Commissions views on this?
