The European Commission is planning to boost cooperation with Asian countries in investment, financial services and regulation. The European Commissioner for Financial Services, Lord Hill, made the comments in response to a letter by Petr Ježek and other ALDE members of the European Parliament’s ECON committee.
In his letter, Petr Ježek had urged Commissioner Hill to seek closer cooperation with Asia in the field of financial services, encouraging him to further engage with partners in Asia in order to deepen regulatory cooperation.
In his reply, Commissioner Hill said he "fully shared the view on the need to consider the international dimension” of the EU’s Capital Markets Union. During his planned trip to Hong Kong, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Beijing and Tokyo in November, Lord Hill will explain one of the EU's flagship initiatives which aims to restore growth and increase attractiveness for Asian investors. He also said he would discuss cooperation in financial services regulation with his Asian counterparts in order to increase investment opportunities in both marketplaces.
