MEPs vote to defend freedom of panorama

On the basis of a joint agreement of political groups from June 30, the European Parliament on Thursday voted to remove a clause which would restrict freedom of panorama which allows for the creation of images of buildings, statues and other objects in public space without the consent of copyright owners.

Despite the fact that the clause was included in a non-legislative report, the issue has raised public concern in many EU member states and prompted a campaign, joined by Wikipedia, to reject the controversial amendment. Petr Ježek was among those MEPs who called for the clause to be removed.

“This has certainly become an issue many citizens and MEPs were concerned about,” Petr Ježek told the news website euronews.com.
