Petr Ježek

Born in Prague in 1965. A graduate of Prague’s University of Economics, Petr Ježek joined his country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and served as a diplomat. For some ten years, he held relatively high posts related to the country’s ties with the EU, e.g. heading the Foreign Ministry’s European Integration Department and serving as Deputy State Secretary for European Affairs. He also worked as chief of staff of then Czech Prime Minister Vladimír Špidla. In 2014, Petr Ježek was elected Member of the European Parliament on the ballot of the ANO 2011 party.

Petr Ježek leads EP delegation to Japan in advance of G7

Security and defence, economy and energy among issues to be discussed by EU and Japanese parliamentarians.

Members of the European Parliament's Delegation for Relations with Japan, led by Petr Ježek, are in Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto for a series of meetings with counterparts, a week ahead of the G7 meeting which will take place in Ise-Shima in Japan.

The talks will take place during what is the 36th Annual Inter-parliamentary Meeting between the European Parliament and the Japanese Diet. This will be the second IPM held under the chairmanship of Petr Ježek.

Discussions will take place on a number of issues which will be raised in the G7 summit, including Security and Defence, Economic Development, and Energy poližcy. Key items in terms of the relationship between the EU and Japan will take place on the Free Trade Agreement and Strategic Partnership Agreement currently under negotiation by the two sides.

Commenting on arrival in Tokyo, Petr Ježek said “I am looking forward to the talks with our counterparts, and with the G7 only a week away, it is a good opportunity to discuss issues of importance between European and Japanese parliamentarians.”
