Petr Ježek
Born in Prague in 1965. A graduate of Prague’s University of Economics, Petr Ježek joined his country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and served as a diplomat. For some ten years, he held relatively high posts related to the country’s ties with the EU, e.g. heading the Foreign Ministry’s European Integration Department and serving as Deputy State Secretary for European Affairs. He also worked as chief of staff of then Czech Prime Minister Vladimír Špidla. In 2014, Petr Ježek was elected Member of the European Parliament on the ballot of the ANO 2011 party.
Contacts
Petr Ježek, the MEP (ALDE) writes to the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk.
The letter highlights the "Executive Order" of the US President Trump from January 27, 2017, which according to Ježek clearly violates international law, incl. Geneva Convention and 1967 Protocol (which concerns the legal status of refugees and was signed also by the United States).
“I am convinced that it is in the EU’s fundamental interest to continue to insist that international law is observed. And, if necessary, to use all available instruments to ensure that this is the case, including targeted restrictive measures to be taken against international law violator(s) if the behaviour persists“, Petr Ježek stated in his letter.
According to him, the firm response of the international community from the outset prevents further violations of law.
