Born in Prague in 1965. A graduate of Prague’s University of Economics, Petr Ježek joined his country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and served as a diplomat. For some ten years, he held relatively high posts related to the country’s ties with the EU, e.g. heading the Foreign Ministry’s European Integration Department and serving as Deputy State Secretary for European Affairs. The European Parliament’s Delegation for Relations with Japan, chaired by Petr Jezek, welcomed three Japanese MPs to its meeting on 9th March in order to set the groundwork for the annual Inter-Parliamentary meeting between the Japanese Diet and the European Parliament.
Members discussed the future of EU-Japan relations in the current global context. There was an emphasis from both sides on strengthening ties, with particular attention placed on concluding the EU-Japan Free Trade Agreement and Strategic Partnership Agreement.
Commenting after the meeting, Mr Jezek said ‘It is more important than ever for the EU and Japan to work together, alongside like-minded nations, to improve trade and diplomacy links across the world. It was a pleasure to welcome MPs Gotoda, Nakagawa and Yoshida to our discussions today and I look forward to meeting them again in Strasbourg in July at the next Inter-Parliamentary meeting.’
