Teambuilding in Prague

On the 16th October Brussels teams from the MEP Mr. Pavel Telička and Mr. Petr Ježek offices travelled to Prague in the framework of a two days team-building. Our internal aim was to get to know one another, the Prague and Brussels teams had not met before. We wanted to improve on the organization and coordination between the two offices. The Prague and Brussels teams then completed several meetings with Czech ministries, stakeholders and NGOs in order to get acquainted with issues of substance that really matter to Czech Republic, its businesses and stakeholders.

Following the first office meeting the teams split up, the first group went to the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI). The talk focused on energy in general, the priorities of the Czech Republic, energy security and climate and energy within the 2030 "agenda", which should be finally adopted during the next two days.

Pavel Telička and other colleagues went to meet representatives of the NGO People in Need and immediately after joined us for a meeting with the deputy Minister Vladimir Bartl and other representatives of the MTI to discuss the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP). This agreement between the EU and USA, is a priority for the ALDE group, it will provide a new growth impetus in the European Union, it is an important step towards closer cooperation. During the meeting MEP Telička clearly declared our positive approach to this issue and interest in cooperating with Czech entities, though stressed that many issues will have to be thoroughly negotiated, the deal has to be well balanced and we cannot accept lowering of standards. On the other hand, the talks should not be hijacked for political purposes. Transparency has to be ensured. One can say that Mr. Bartl and his team left an impression of competence and dedication. Close interaction for the future has been agreed.

Concurrently a third team went to the Office of the Czech Government to discuss financial markets in CR and money market funds. Communication lines were set up for future cooperation for our multilingual team

The team had a short lunch meeting with a Czech expert on Japan, Prof. Martin Vačkář, as Mr. Ježek has just been named Chair of the Delegation on relations with Japan. Later on during our meeting at the Ministry of Transport, we discussed the importance of the "use it or lose it principle". We agreed on the fact that Czech Republic needs a much better preparation for the utilization of CEF  funds, in order not to lose money. This principle is not an empty one and the Commission will implement it thoroughly.

We also agreed on establishing specific communication channels between the EP Office in Brussels and the Ministry Office in Prague, so we can develop an efficient working mode.
