Petr Ježek addresses EU-Japan event in Brussels

Petr Ježek addressed a conference on the EU-Japan partnership held in Brussels on Tuesday, April 21. The event was organized by the Kangaroo Group, a European organisation which brings together members of the European institutions, academia, media and business communities under the motto 'free movement and security'.

Mr Ježek delivered a speech at a panel discussion entitled ''The EU and Japan: A new Stage in Partnership'', alongside the Japanese Ambassador to the EU, Keiichi Katakami, the Vice President of the European Parliament Ioan Pascu and representatives from the Hitachi and METI corporations.

In his speech, the Czech MEP highlighted the importance of political dialogue between the EU and Japan. He addressed a number of pertinent issues, including the EU-Japan Free Trade Agreement as well as the upcoming inter-parliamentary meeting between representatives of the European Parliament and the Japanese Diet.

Petr Ježek also underlined the importance of world democracies working together in the current global environment. “More than ever, the world democracies must stand together and be more active in ensuring international law, security and sustainable economic development,” he said.

Next week, Mr Ježek will lead the European Parliament's delegation for relations with Japan as they welcome their counterparts from Tokyo for a two day inter-parliamentary meeting in Strasbourg.
