FIFA: Interim leader must be appointed says European Parliament

Liberals and Democrats in the European Parliament are strongly supporting a   cross party resolution on the FIFA scandal, which calls on the FIFA President   Sepp Blatter to stand down now, so an interim leader can be appointed to take   FIFA forward. The draft resolution, signed by all political groups in the  European Parliament, also calls for a full investigation into the Qatar and   Russia World Cup bids and for the European Commission to ensure Europe's   money laundering regulations are sufficient to fight corruption in   sport.  The resolution will be voted on tomorrow and most probably   adopted.

Petr JEŽEK MEP,   shadow rapporteur for this resolution for the Liberal and Democrat Group in   the European Parliament said this afternoon;

"FIFA has seriously damaged the integrity of global football. Blatter should stand down now and   an interim leader be appointed. So long as he remains in post, meaningful   reform is impossible"

"It's also vital we   have a full and fair investigation into the Russia and Qatar World Cup bids.   If there was corruption, these bids must be re-run as soon as possible."

"It is regrettable that   we had to rely on the Americans to step in go after FIFA, which is why    I particularly welcome calls for the European  Commission to   consistently monitor EU anti-money laundering legislation to ensure that it   is sufficient to fight against corruption in sport.
