Born in Prague in 1965. A graduate of Prague’s University of Economics, Petr Ježek joined his country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and served as a diplomat. For some ten years, he held relatively high posts related to the country’s ties with the EU, e.g. heading the Foreign Ministry’s European Integration Department and serving as Deputy State Secretary for European Affairs. Dear President Tusk,
I am disappointed that the EU has failed to implement the Temporary Protection Mechanism to deal with the current mass influx of refugees. Please see the attached detail regarding how and when the temporary protection mechanism can be used. The text can also be found on my website - http://www.petrjezek.eu/novinka/en/262/why-doesn-t-eu-employ-temporary-protection-of-refugees/#novinky
In my view, the EU has not dealt with this crisis in the correct way from the start, and now we are faced with a very real possibility that the Migration Crisis could be the beginning of the end of not just the Schengen Zone, but also the European project.
It is essential that we take an all-encompassing approach to the issue. We should address the crisis at its roots with concrete actions in the Middle East and Africa.
With Kind Regards,
Petr Jezek
