As the rapporteur of the EP’s Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs Committee (LIBE), Petr Ježek on Monday presented a draft opinion on the European Commission’s 2014 report on protection the EU’s financial interests and fight against fraud, as well as the planned PIF directive on the fight against fraud by means of criminal law.
Petr Ježek welcomed the report, and suggested that its next edition, which should be published no later than the beginning of 2016, also review the performance of EU institutions in fighting corruption.
MEP Ježek’s report also condemned losses in VAT fraud, estimated at around 168 million euros annually, and called on the European Commission, the European Parliament and the Council to give a new impetus to negotiations among the three institutions to find the best way to fight against this type of fraud.
